Walking The Path of Grief Immersion
at Breath Space, White River
18 NOVEMBER 2023
09h00-15h00
When we experience the loss of a loved one, we begin a journey that has no end.
No time frame and certainly no manual to guide us.
Each journey is as unique and individual as we are.
Grief can be a tsunami of emotion, knocking you straight off your feet. Unpredictable.
Impacting us in ways we cannot even begin to imagine.
Sometimes we don't even realize what we are experiencing IS grief.
Mourning and letting go is a process. But we are conditioned to "suck it up and move on" or, even more damaging, to simply think positive thoughts.
Smiling and assuring everyone we're fine, while inside dying quietly as we suppress and internalize our emotions.
There is no way around grief. We don't "get over it". We move through it. We need to learn how to live with it, how to adapt our lives to accommodate it. Most importantly, to give it the space and attention it needs so that it doesn't become all-consuming.
Grief can show up in many different ways. Sometimes it's subtle so we hardly notice it. At other times it knocks us off our feet, a giant wave of emotion that sucks the breath from us, making it hard to function.
One of the most damaging things we can do to ourselves is internalize our grief.
Unless we create the space to process and work through the emotions that surround loss, we internalize them, where they continue to grow and fester, doing untold damage to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
It's important to get comfortable with the natural expression of grief and understand its place in our lives. It can become a powerful force for growth and bring a deep appreciation for life and for those who inhabit it with us.
I have created a special day at the new Breath Space Retreat venue just outside White River
Walking the Path of Grief Immersion
Join me on the 18th November and step away from the routines of life for a while.
Allow yourself time for reflection and introspection in the safe and nurturing space I create, using a variety of tools and practices, incorporating a sound journey and ritual. Spend time in nature and leave with a clearer understanding of how loss shows up, how to work through it and how to implement self-care when grief threatens to overwhelm you.
Begin to see that there is, indeed, life after loss.
This is a day to simply allow yourself to be with your grief, no matter where you are in your journey, and however grief shows up for you.
Your grief may not necessarily be the loss of a loved one. It could be the end of a relationship, a dream, loss of way of life. There are many levels and types of grief, each as unique as the person experiencing it.
My Walking The Path of Grief Immersion is a gentle process that meets you where you are.
Meet Your Facilitator : Di Atherton
I have always had a fascination with how the last part of our life cycle - death - is generally ignored, at great cost to our well-being. My interest in the grief process grew after the death of my husband back in 2019. It's only when I look back now that I realise just how massive the impact of grief has been on my life. I feel like I am finally emerging from the fog, getting back to some semblance of myself, although changed in many ways.
It was as a result of this deep interest that I completed certification with Sacred Dying SA to become a "death doula" (the other end of the spectrum to a birth doula) or end-of-life guide, supporting those having to face end-of-life or suffering bereavement and loss.
I now offer group and individual grief guidance and retreats, both in person and online. I have combined this work and my Reiki practice into a powerful offering, one where I hold the space for the person to process their grief and use distance Reiki to help support the body, which of course carries all the trauma and emotion we experience.
